| Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Describe Biohazard "The Band" and musically. Musically, what are Biohazard's influences? Billy Graziadei: A band of misfits from Brooklyn who once didn't know their head from their assholes, no good freaks who didn't take any shit from nobody, no where, no how! (Laughs) Ok, so to be honest we're just regular guys from Brooklyn who play music because "we" want to, from our hearts and souls. We give our own blood from the heart not from the pocket or bank account like so many other bands these days. My pride I will take with me when I die. Influences, life, great music made by bands like Black Sabbath, Bad Brains, Cromags, Agnostic Front, Led Zeppelin, and Minor Threat. There’s too many to mention. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Your newest release “Uncivilization”, do you feel that this is Biohazard's best as compared to past albums. Although in my opinion, they were all great. Billy Graziadei: By far “Uncivilization” the best album we have ever accomplished, for many reasons. By plugging a chord right into my heart and connecting it to a CD recorder, I was able to make a direct contact with our truest, most pure emotions, angst, undiluted by other outside forces like producers, engineers, managers, labels etc... We produced this album ourselves and now stand very proudly behind every ounce of blood sweat and tears that makes up “Uncivilization”. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: How did you come to the decision of naming the album title “Uncivilization”? Billy Graziadei: The further we move forward the further we move back in time. I wonder if we were more civilized when we lived in caves and only worried about what there was to eat that day and not letting the fire go out. I think we have some big balls claiming to be "civilized" when in fact we can't even live one day with out mass slaughtering and rape on every level; physical, emotional, social, environmental. How pathetic we have become when man and woman live in a world separated by ignorance, arrogance and hatred. I search for a better place. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Biohazard has always been "about the fans", what are you giving them this time around that tops everything else? Billy Graziadei: Our lyrics are finally going to be available in many languages. On the web page we already have English of course, German, Italian, Portuguese and tons more to follow. A lot more touring on this album, we live to play live. Nothing gets me higher than being on stage with my brothers ripping shit up. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Noticed there are some contributions to this album in the way of musicians (Phil Anselmo, Pete Steele, etc…), how did that come about? Billy Graziadei: Just friends hanging. We have had the pleasure of touring with some great bands along the way and have made friends with a lot of people we mutually respect. Things just worked out this way for “Uncivilization”. In the past there was always conflicting schedules. Being in NYC at our own Rat Piss Studios, I think everyone we know came through NYC on tour during the recording sessions for “Uncivlization”. It was all just natural. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: WSOU 89.5 gives the song "Sellout" massive radio airplay, what has the feedback been from the fans thus far? Billy Graziadei: The email I get is all about our peeps digging it, cool with me. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: In speaking of WSOU, you’ll be appearing as well as some other great bands for the WSOU 15th Anniversary "Riverfront Rampage" show at Riverfront Stadium, Newark NJ on August 19th. What are your feelings on the show? The band must be geared up, it’s basically like "coming home". Billy Graziadei: We're psyched! The NJ/NY area is our hometown. Coming Home? We are home, it's like playing in your living room! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: In the past there have been several label changes throughout the years, can you explain? Billy Graziadei: Label changes? Hmm, maybe when people step to us and try to change or control us, we flake on them. We will not sell our souls. There are too many being sold at the moment! (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What made you decide to sign with Sanctuary Records/Metal Is, although their a great Label? Billy Graziadei: Music fans, hard music fans! We all got along really well and it seemed like a welcomed change to the "corporations" we have been dealing with these past few albums. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Apart from the music aspect of the biz, I see your doing some writing, can you tell us about your collections, "Tales from the Hardside"? Billy Graziadei: Time will unfold the whole hidden world of my life with Biohazard. Some stories are surfacing around the world. Keep it tight. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Any band’s that you’ve toured with made being on the road "chaotic" but fun? Billy Graziadei: Pantera and Slipknot! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What band or band’s in your opinion don’t get recognized enough but should and why? Billy Graziadei: Hmm Pantera, they should be the biggest band in the world! Rollins, Cradle of Filth, Six Feet Under. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I ask this question next question quite a bit on the site because it may give an up-coming band or musician better insight to the industry. Can you give some suggestions to an up-coming band seeking label interest. Is it better to shop an independent label first, as opposed to a major label? Billy Graziadei: We went with an independent label for the first 2 records. I wish we would have stayed there. My advice, play the music from your heart. That's all that matters. Everything else will happen as it is meant to be. Don't "try" to make it, just be! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Overall what has your experience been with the industry? Billy Graziadei: I'm repressing the innate urge to hunt down the fake mother fucker’s out there fronting like they are "music fans" with plastic smiles and plastic hand shakes. Check out a song I wrote called "Trap" on “Uncivilization”. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Any final words for The Metal Web!? Billy Graziadei: I gotta take a crap, sorry! (Laughs) Just kidding. Props to the site and thanks for the interview. OFFICIAL SITE “BIOHAZARD” : http://www.biohazard.com HOME |
