Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You recently toured the states with Amon Amarth and Trivium. What did you find the response of the crowds to be for the new material and what was it like touring with Amon Amarth who I know from experience like to have fun and are complete "pranksters"? Great bunch of guy's!

Henkka Blacksmith: Tour was great. Lots of people, thanks to the great package we had here. Crowds were great and the new stuff seemed to do pretty well. They are quite hard to pull off live though. But, we are learning everyday. The Amon Amarth guy’s are cool. It’s a little sad that they have to leave every night quite early so we don’t get to hang out that much. Trivium boy’s are cool. Corey and Travis have spent a couple of nights on our bus too.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Can you tell us a little bit about the new album and the significance behind the naming of Are You Dead Yet?

Henkka Blacksmith: I think it sounds different. I guess all our albums have sounded different. But, this one surprised me when I heard it when it was complete, sounds fresh somehow. I don’t know what’s the thing but something is very fresh. It’s “Bodom”. About the title, Alexi was totally trashed, lost and strung-out last winter, and he came up with the name, the title, meaning like "have you had enough yet?"

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com
: How did Kimberly Goss come about to writing the lyrics to Bastards of Bodom?

Henkka Blacksmith: She just helped Alexi out. We had a little rush with the stuff, so she just helped us. That’s it.

: How's it been going with your fairly new guitarist, Roope Latvala, especially being that this is his first "real" debut with a full-length album?

Henkka Blacksmith: It’s been, great. We’ve experienced with him lot’s of laughter and good times. He s great live and in studio. He didn’t have that much affect on the music. Ii mean that nothings changed that much. But, he plays well and certainly makes things easier.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What made Roope the optimal choice for the Children of Bodom project because I know Alexi was pretty particular on who joins the band?

Henkka Blacksmith: We knew him from before. He had been touring with us as a Tech. He has a great personality, great guitarist and lives in the area.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You always hear bands say that their current line-up is the best, but do you think there are things this line-up is capable of that the band perhaps couldn't do before?

Henkka Blacksmith: Yeah, I’ve had so many better times with this line-up, offstage and live. Roope is so experienced, and it shows. He is very skillful. So, in many ways it’s better now.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Do you feel Are You Dead Yet? has met your expectations or is how you envisioned it?

Henkka Blacksmith: I would say there was no visioning. But, it turned out to be much better than I expected, as I said before.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What are some of your favorite tracks off of the newest Children of Bodom record and why?

Henkka Blacksmith: I like Are You Dead Yet?, its heavy, and fun to play live. Somehow, it was so different from other songs when we made it, so it was very interesting. Living Dead Beat, but its difficult to play live. Good song with interesting pre-chorus and chorus!

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What's the main element about Children of Bodom that makes you feel as though it's the best project you've ever been involved in?

Henkka Blacksmith: It’s just good music to me and always a little surprising when new stuff comes. So, it s interesting and great to play with these guy’s, and to our fans.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Thanks for taking the time in interviewing with me. With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!?

Henkka Blacksmith
: You are welcome buddy. Thanks for everybody who made this tour as great as it is. Thanks!
