| w/Ed Glass - ElectricEyeRadio.com *LIVE* |
| Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Electriceyeradio.com Connecticut and the worlds best rock. I have Dawn from The Metal Web on the phone with me. Hey Dawn how are you doing? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Hi Ed how are you doing? Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: We are doing good. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Thanks for having me. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: No Problem. Hey so tell people about your site. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Wow, it is a lot to say. First and foremost, I’ve been involved in the music industry and around bands for quite a number of years. I figured I’d first start off with that because not many people know that. Early on back in the mid 80’s I was a vocalist and fronted several tri-state area Metal bands. After my departure from the bands, I handled PR work and managed some Metal bands in the NJ and NY area. So I’m def. no stranger to the scene. With the knowledge instilled through doing all of this I made several connections within the industry, gained the respect and have remained a permanent fixture throughout the years, which leads me I guess to The Metal Web. The site started back in 2000 on a geocities free site for the people that don’t know and was built at first to incorporate my modeling, which was doing extremely well at that time with the promotion of bands. As the year progressed, I had a couple label reps get in touch that I had known and inquired about featuring some of their bands. The Metal Web! Spotlight was born. Due to our own promotion for the site and the labels and bands we have dealings with the site traffic just skyrocketed so it was necessary to go .com. So now it’s Themetalweb.com, no longer a free site. We feature national and some unsigned metal bands in a section as I stated earlier called Metal Web! Spotlight, which is a page generated for the best bands and metal sites that we deem of worth. Actually, Nationals get a 2nd page when featured for their interview. We provide publicity within the website for numerous labels worldwide for up-coming releases, tours, news and also in covering the shows when the bands are touring in the NJ/NY or surrounding area. So that’s basically it. I think I just summed it up for you. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Pretty much. I got three questions for you and that’s it today. So it’s going to be kind of quick. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: …Uh, oh. I got to leave? (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Well, no. You can stick around. But the first question I’m going to ask you, I thought I’d ask you about your interviews that you do there. Now you just mentioned you do a lot of different bands. What’s the best interview you think you’ve done with any band? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: For me to pick a favorite or a particular favorite would be difficult because all the bands that I have ever had the pleasure of working with have been great in one aspect or another. Different bands have different personalities and you run with that. A good majority of the bands that are interviewed or featured are bands that I work with on a continuous basis, whether it be for their publicity of an up-coming release, their studio work, writing, tour dates, covering their shows etc. So there’s a mutual respect and a rapport that’s built with the bands already when interviewing with them. So with some bands the interview process is more of a relaxed atmosphere. A few that would fall into that category would be off the top of my head Amon Amarth. Johan has a great sense of humor. Great guy! The Haunted, Shadows Fall. Bobby from Overkill. We always have a blast. The Crown, Disfear, Exhumed. I don’t ever recall having a bad interview. I guess I’ve been lucky! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: That is why I was not going to ask you that question because I do not think you have. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I haven’t. Like I said, different bands have different personalities and some are better in different ways. Well you know. You interview as well. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I’ve done them. Question number two. What are your top ten records of this year? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Wow, oh god that is hard! Off the top of my head, I loved Overkill’s “Killbox 13”. That was one of my favorites. It’s always in my glove compartment in the car. Amon Amarth’s “Vs the World”. I mean I’m just trying to think, off the top of my head. What else am I listening to, The Haunted’s “One Kill Wonder”. For this year, your killing me! (Laughs) I don’t know if you’re familiar with the band Callenish-Circle? They had a great release. What else am I listening to, let’s see… Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Shadows Fall? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Shadows Fall hasn’t come out with anything. But their last album was great. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: It was out last year. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: That was actually almost two years ago. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Spring. We got it Spring. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yeah that was a good album too. I dug it. But I’m just trying to think of things like new release wise. Vehemence’s “God was Created”. I thought was a good album. You’re sticking me here! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: What about Mastodon? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You know I have not really listened to their stuff yet. So I can’t really say whether it was a good or a bad album. I haven’t really listened to it to be quite honest with you. But Like I said Callenish-Circle “My Passion/Your Pain” was a great album. That album is always in my glove box and in my CD player. And being that this is off the top of my head, I think that’s about it. That’s horrible! I didn’t expect you to ask me that. You’re tough! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I told you. You’ve got to expect it. I’m going to go to a song and I’m going to do one last question. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Ok, cool. Great! *Back from break* Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I’ve got Dawn on the phone with me from The Metal Web! Website and she was talking to me about what her site does and we came up with a couple of other releases as soon as we got off the air. You were like Oh, The Crown! (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: (Laughs) Yup, definitely. The Crown’s “Possessed 13”, another one in my glove box and CD player. Disfear’s “Misanthropic Generation”. It’s a little hardcore, I dug it. The Fallen’s “Front Toward Enemy”. The new Exhumed “Anatomy is Destiny” is a very good album. And I think that about fills it. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Slayer. We mentioned that too. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Slayer definitely. The box set. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: And Cannibal Corpse too. Who will be here tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM, which will be fun. Not here, but on the phone. Their going to be here in the studio yeah! No their not. (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Kickin’! (Laughs) You’ll have everybody coming down. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: If they come to the studio I’m going ask them this tomorrow but we’re going to try to see if maybe get them to do an acoustic one day. It’s something they’ve never done. I’m going to ask. They’ll probably say no. I’m used to hearing “Oh, I don’t know if I can do that”. The other stuff I wanted to ask you about is your modeling that you do. Can you tell me about that? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Well I have modeled in various, their all music related. Music related magazines, webzines. One of the magazines was Ballbuster Magazine. I don’t know if you’re familiar with that magazine? I was in the print issue as the ad girl. I am also featured as we speak on their website “ballbusterhardmusic.com”, I believe that’s the website URL. You guys can check me out there. I’ve also appeared in The Grimoire, RR Babes, Perfect Malice, Imaginary Playmate, as well as have modeled for band websites for merch. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: What about video? Have you ever done any video work? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: No. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: They have never asked you to do any video work? Wow. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: No. I’m just good for merch.! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: So on your site there is also pictures I know that? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yes, there’s a page generated just for myself strictly for that reason. For promotional modeling, band merch. as well as music related websites and so forth. So if anybody’s interested in that they can go up to that page… Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: …She is hot! So go look. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: (Laughs) Email me for details. I can give a list of credits of where I’ve been featured so far. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: If a band wants to get in touch with you for an interview or whatever, what do they do? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: All that information is actually on the news page as we speak and also on the Dawn page. They can reach me there as well. There’s an email address. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: And of course if their a local band or something you’ll talk to them too, right? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Oh definitely, we feature locals. Like I said, we feature mostly national but we do feature some unsigned metal bands as well. We featured in the NJ area, their pretty well known, DTA. Their like a mix of Testament, Overkill. They’re a really good band, deserve a break. Try to help them out any way I can. Actually I was considering even managing them because I’ve done that in the past. They’re really a good band and they deserve a really big break. So hopefully one day they’ll get that. But there are a couple other bands also in the area that are pretty hot and that I’ve featured. They’re definitely on the site for people to check out. Another thing I would like to bring up too, because I get many emails as far as for the Metal Web! Spotlight. So I know many my people are listening or bands that have emailed the site or fans, about certain criteria for the Metal Web! Spotlight. In dealing with bands and being involved for so long, they ask me, what I am looking for or what we are looking for. From doing this for so long, I’ve acquired a keen ear for proficiency and the band that’s featured must possess good musicianship collectively bottom line. I look at the structures, arrangements, off times, vocal abilities etc. The band definitely has to have substance and be tight collectively. I want to hear something that’s going to blow me off my chair, national or not. If the band as a whole is not good they don’t get featured. It’s not just the vocalist or just the guitarist or the drummer that makes a band good; it’s the band as a whole. So that hopefully answers anyone’s questions out there that has emailed the site or has inquired about that. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Any other things you want say about the site? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Well coming up for The Metal Web!, it is actually still in the discussion stage at the moment but there may be plans to do a Metal Web! Showcase in the late summer or early fall in the NJ or NY area. I haven’t decided on that yet because like I said I’m just starting to get the logistics. I’ve been asked on several occasions to do this by promoters and again I’m in the process of getting all the logistics. The showcase will consist of one or two national bands and two or three locals to represent the Metal Web!. As far as the nationals, at this moment because I know your going to ask, who they are (Laughs) I’m not at liberty to say who the national… Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: …I wasn’t actually going to ask because I figured you were at liberty to say, yes? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: No, I’m not at liberty to say who the national or nationals will be due to it still being in the discussion stage. I have been in touch with a couple different bands and I can assure you that it will be one hell of a show should the plans go forward. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Can I ask a question, can you say what labels they might be on? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: No because that might give it away. (Laughs) Put it this way, they’ve worked closely with the site in the past. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Ok, well that could pretty much be anybody. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Right! We’ll leave it at that. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Well that narrows it down a whole lot. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Well you can understand it is not a “go” yet. So for me to sit here and say this band may do it or that band may do it... Once the plans go through it will be posted on the site. Keep checking the site for that. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Anything else? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: A lot of great bands coming up in the “spotlight”. I got Dew Scented from Nuclear Blast coming up, a couple Metal Blade bands. Relapse’s Disfear is being featured as we speak. A lot of good things planned for 2004. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: You might even be doing one on a certain radio station. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yes, we may feature a certain radio station that is well deserved within the next three weeks. I wonder who it could be. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I think were well deserved of that honor. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Wait a minute. Who said you? (Laughs) I’m only kidding. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Then screw you. (Laughs) I think our staff will be here and they’ll be happy to talk to you. It’ll be fun. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Cool. I’d love to feature you guys. It should be a lot of fun. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: We’re looking forward to doing more stuff with you. I was going to say, if you would like some help with the thing your planning, let us know. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I am just starting to get the logistics, maybe I could give you a call, and we could rap. Definitely, you guys are within the area which is a plus. I’ll definitely keep you in mind. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Yes, we have plenty of people that could help out. You’ll probably have at least two or three people to come from here. It might even be fun to do a live broadcast. We’ll see what happens. We have to work out our logistics on this end. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: It is in the discussion stage. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: We’ll work out the logistics on this end and see what we can do. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: That is why it is best to say it is in the discussion stage. It sounds so secretive. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: (Laughs) Yes, we might do it then again who knows. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yes, that way you do not look like a jackass if you don’t. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: We might get blown up by terrorists tomorrow. (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Exactly! So that’s the best way to leave things. “It’s in the discussion stage". Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Anything else you want to say about your site? I actually had one more question about it. There was a page there of band bios? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Band bios? That’s the Metal Web! Spotlight. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: No, there was another one where you had a whole bunch of links for bands and it looked like you had bios or something. Maybe I misread that. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I think you misread it. We definitely have all kinds of link exchanges for metal and band sites. But the Metal Web! Spotlight has the feature with the bio and the band. There’s a bio there, pictures, and discography and then underneath it says who have "held the reigns" at The Metal Web prior so people can get a gist and go to their websites or what have ya. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: That is what I was looking at. There’s a whole ton of bands. I just couldn’t remember what it was called. It’s kind of like an archive. That’s what I was trying to get at. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Ok, well spit it out next time! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I am so bad at remembering what I’m looking at and then I take notes about it. I’ll put the note down and I’ll write in the note “things you I looked at”. (Laughs) Then I’ll look at it, “thing’s I looked at”? In parenthesis Bio and I knew it wasn’t your Bio. I had to figure out what the hell I was talking about. I had gone through all of it. There’s a whole school of bands there. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: We also cover the bands when they are in the area, which is cool. Which consists of, we will have on the news page reviews; sometimes we do the interviews at the shows themselves. I now do the concert photography. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: So you’ll be doing that at all of the shows now? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I have actually been doing that. I had one guy doing it. Put it this way, he was more into the glitz and the glamour of meeting the bands and passes. His work wasn’t up to par towards the end. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I’ve dealt with them. Believe me I know. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yeah, so I started doing it and actually, the pictures come out a heck of lot better. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: When you do it yourself they usually do. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Well I am very anal. Everything has to be just so with anything. That’s why I have a small staff. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Believe me, I know. I’m the same way. That’s why my staff will be picking on me from day one. I can see a couple of them, what do you mean I have to do it that way, because that’s how I do it. It’ll be one of those, oh, he’s a jerk! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: But that’s how you make your website or your radio station one of the best. And I’m not being pompous but I’m very proud of what I’ve done. I took something from nothing and made it something. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Exactly, that’s what you have to do. You have to be picky to get it there. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: That’s right. We not only support these bands when they have an album of the week, were supporting these bands all year long. In the photography pit when everyone else is gone after the "3 song" photo session, I am still there in the pit sweating with these guys until the show is done. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: It looks good for you to be there. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yeah, of course and I enjoy it. That’s the thing. I don’t just do it for like I said “the album of the week” because I’m going to get all these major hits or all this fan mail. I do it because I support the bands all year long if I’m into them. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Which is what all of us should be doing but a lot of us don’t. There are many people out there; I am not going to go into names. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I cannot speak for anyone else but I do know what we do and that’s 100% support of the bands and that’s the way it should be and you do the same thing. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: If you can’t support the bands, what are you doing this for? If you are just doing it just for the hell of it… Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: ...for the album of the week or the album of the month when they are hot. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: They should just get out. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: That's right. Like I said we 100 % support the bands and they know that. Anybody that we’ve ever dealt with knows that and that’s how I’ve gained the respect that I have throughout the years is due to this. Again, I’m at these shows with these guys. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: And I think they appreciate it. They look out and say she’s right there. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Definitely! And when I’m interviewing these bands, you study the band, you do your home work, you know their history, get out to the shows, you know their discography, updates and so forth. You don’t know how many times bands thank me for giving them something “real” to answer and think about. You read all these stupid interviews. Like what color are your socks or something stupid? (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: There’s a website out there and I’m not going to mention their name but they ask the dumbest questions. I sit there and I look at that and I’m like how the hell does anybody put up with this? I would have killed the guy if he asked me a question like that. There are some people out there that know what they are doing and some that just think it is a joke. Most of us take the music seriously. We do not take it as a joke. Unless the band is goofing on them selves, then it is a different story. If it is a band like Gwar, you know their goofing. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Hey, they can't be too goofy because look at them, they have been around for years! Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I know. But you know every time your going to do an interview with them it is going to be screwy as all hell. The same thing I found with the band Gorerotted. Those guys upstairs are just gone. Funny as all hell, but their gone. It's fun. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Yeah, they're a trip! But that is what I said earlier. There is a relaxed atmosphere. So with some, it makes it almost more fun than work and that's great. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Knowing the music behind it is as good as it is and knowing that their screwing around with it, your like "oh, this is good". At least they have a sense of humor. Some bands outside of the metal scene that we have dealt with take themselves a little too seriously. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You will get that. But you know what, that's even a good interview. Just because they are answering you straightforward and everything with no joking or whatever, it can still be a good interview. I have had interviews like that. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Yeah their good interviews too. But then when you throw it a little, not a joke question but kidding their like… Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: They give you that look with the eyebrow. (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Either that look or there's dead silence for 5 minutes and your like "are you there"? (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I actually interviewed one band like that but I managed to break the ice with him and I was shocked. I'm not going to mention the name but everybody else was like, oh, he's difficult and he's scary and he's very quiet and he's this and he's that and now were like the best of friends. You just have to break through that barrier little by little and many times most people even in general will come around. You just have to have the rapport and you do too. You make people feel comfortable. I feel comfortable, Ed! I'll be back! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I try! Maybe you can come up here the next time and be a guest DJ. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Cool! On my way out, can I request a song? Slayer "Reign in Blood"? Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: One problem, don't have it. (Laughs) Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: (Laughs) Ed that would have been a perfect close. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: It is one of the few Slayer songs that we do not have. We never got the box set. Their label never sent it. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Uh oh time for a phone call! (Laughs) What about Amon Amarth, "Versus the World"? They are an excellent band live too. I covered their Art of Noise tour, phenomenal! Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: I can do that. They are awesome live! Did you catch them on The Metal Gods tour? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I sure did. I covered that show too. I told you I'm out there! (Laughs) Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Was that a good tour as everyone has told me? Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: It was excellent! I covered the show in NY on the last night that it was cancelled. I was very lucky. They had an after party and so forth, it was great. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: They only did like 10 shows. Now I am looking forward to hearing what will happen with the next record. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Amon Amarth is in the writing stage in the studio. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Yeah and Judas Priest. That should be a nice fun reunion. We just were offered Ripper Owen of Iced Earth. I figured that will be kind of fun. I cannot wait to see what you do with that because I know you will get something with that too. From hearing him on The Tour Bus (WDHA), he seems like a pretty good interview. I have to say hi to Ralph and Stacey of the Tour Bus (WDHA). I know their listening. Hey guys! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Hey Ralph! Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: Thank you very much for calling in today. Thank you for coming on and hopefully you will be back on again soon. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Thank you! Thanks for having me. Ed Glass/Electric Eye Radio: So we will give you Amon Amarth to close the show out today. Versus The World at electriceyeradio.com. Connecticut and the worlds best rock. Thanks Dawn!
