| w/SCOTT WILSON |
| Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Before being signed, I read that the band didn’t do a lot of huge self-promotion except for local shows. There were no mini-tours or anything so how did a small band out of Indianapolis catch the eye of Brian Slagel of Metal Blade Records? It can almost be compared to a Cinderella story. (Laughs) Scott Wilson: We just hired good representation. Our manager Mark just knows what the fuck is going on. In other words, we got lucky. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Can you tell us the significance behind the album title One as well as the cover art? Scott Wilson: One is just meant to be like, all right, here you go, this is our first chance to make a first impression to the world. The Hellbound is basically just a shout out to our mother fuckers at home that we party with all the time. We used to have a house here that people would live in and it was called the Hellbound House. The fucking parties there were insane. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: When recording for the album, was there anything that the band perhaps did differently then before now that you have the means of a professional studio and if so, what? Scott Wilson: Well the main difference was that instead of spending a week on the recordings we spent a month in there with no other shit going on. Nobody had to go to work or anything, so all our time was devoted to the record. Zeuss was a lot more professional then what we were used to. Ten to twelve hours in the studio everyday for a month. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Being that this album is going to be your first introduction to many, if you could pick one track off the album to best introduce people to Demiricous, which track would that be and why? Scott Wilson: I would say Repentagram. To me that’s the one that goes off the hardest. That’s why we chose it for the first track. I think it has a lot of good, raging parts, and the end just kills. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I read something pretty interesting in an interview that this is your first band. I’m sure that will be enlightening for musicians everywhere just starting out. (Laughs) First band and you get signed. That’s pretty amazing. Is this true? Scott Wilson: Yeah it is true and it’s pretty fucked up. I could barely play guitar when we started to get this thing going. I never thought it would go this far. I feel like a pretty lucky dude. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Within the media Demiricous is being compared to an incredible band that we’ve actually featured/interviewed with many times, The Haunted. How does that make you feel to be compared to such an amazing band with amazing talent and longevity on the scene? Especially with everything still being so new for you guy’s in being signed and touring. Scott Wilson: It feels good. We’ve been getting a lot of Slayer references too, which is fine with me. Who better footsteps to follow in? We didn’t set out to do anything fucking groundbreaking or whatever. We just wanted to make a good thrash album you know. I think we did all right. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Your drummer Chris Cruz recently left the band just after the recording. How difficult was that especially with a tour in the works and how did you, go about finding a replacement in such a short time span? Was it someone you already knew? Scott Wilson: We just posted shit on the internet and just word of mouth. It sucked for a while though. But, we got it covered, and it would have been a lot worse if he had waited until the middle of tour you know? Chris had to leave though. He had wanted to leave for a while and he knew that he didn’t really want to put in the ridiculously hard work that it takes to get a band out there. If he didn’t quit then he definitely would have quit after the first few days of tour. He would have hated it. We were all talking about that over this last week of touring. He’s a fucking awesome dude, but he just isn’t cut out for this shit. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What are your hopes for Demiricous in 2006? Scott Wilson: I hope to get out there and fucking go the hell off in every city. I love meeting people and throwing a few beers back. I hope that we will sell some records I guess. But, I really don’t give a shit. I just want to have a good time. That’s my M.O. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What are your touring plans for the year? Is the band slated to be on any of the Summer Festivals in Europe? Scott Wilson: We’re doing a lot of touring in the U.S. Our plan is to just stay out as long as we can. Go everywhere. There are talks of the U.K. Not official though, yet. I want to just hop on everything we can. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Scott, I wish you guy’s the best of luck and I look forward to interviewing with you again 5-10 years from now as I’m willing to bet the band will definitely be a mainstay within the industry! With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!? Scott Wilson: I really don’t know how long we’ll last you know? We’ll see how it goes. But, I do know that if we are coming to your town, come see us and hang out. I’ll drink you under the table. (Laughs) Thanks. OFFICIAL SITE "DEMIRICOUS": http://www.demiricous.com HOME |
