| Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I actually first became aware of Dry Kill Logic last year when you played the Gigantour with Dave from Megadeth. Can you tell us a little bit about that tour and how you were approached to play the bill? I know you were chosen amongst a few other bands that were also in discussions to play. Cliff Rigano: Dave found out about the band through a mutual friend of ours. He gave the CD a listen and invited us on the tour. It was an amazing experience for us; we’ve never been a part of anything that big before and we’ll never forget it. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: The 3-song CD included in The Magellan Complex release contains two cover songs (Guns and Roses, Danzig) and has only one original titled From Victim to Killer off the album to be released in September. What was the reasoning behind this and how do you feel those particular covers shape who you are today as you’ve told me in our pre-interview? Cliff Rigano: We wanted to release a DVD, but decided to throw in a couple of covers of bands that we felt we owed a certain debt of gratitude for making us who we are today. We all were influenced by the sound of Guns and Roses and Danzig back in the day, and those are the artists we all agreed would be a lot of fun to pay tribute to. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Speaking of The Magellan Complex, there is a DVD also included which captured the band live as well as personal and backstage footage. Can you tell us about the making of as well as what a "midget train" is that you spoke about recently with The Gauntlet.com in which you were quoted as saying, "in the early days of this band, there were a couple band members with midget fetishes. I don’t know if you have seen a full on train with a midget. That is something to see. Maybe it’s a female thing but I couldn’t get it! (Laughs) Cliff Rigano: The DVD footage of the behind the scenes stuff came from years of video tapes that we had from our touring days and we wanted to give kids an idea of what we saw as well as share some good times with them. (Laughs) A midget train? I’m not sure I want to be the one to go on record to explain what a train is if you aren’t familiar with it. Although, I can certainly point you in the direction of some websites where one can be seen, although I don’t know if it will include midgets. You may have to figure that one out on your own. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You also included a video on the new release for Paper Tiger, which I really liked. Can you tell us a little about the concept and why that particular track was chosen as opposed to others? Cliff Rigano: On our last record, The Dead and Dreaming, Paper Tiger was the lead single. You always want to make a video for your lead single. That’s what we did. As for why it was picked over the others, that’s just how it goes. We did the video with Dale Restighini, and he came up with the concept, narrative idea, location, etc because that’s what video producers do, and we were really happy with the outcome. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Tell me about the creation of The Magellan Complex because it’s been a couple years since your last release? Had the band been writing much at that time? Cliff Rigano: We wanted to put out a DVD and decided to put two covers and one original on there to give kids a taste of what’s to come. We were in the studio recording our next full-length album and said why not. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Let’s talk about your new release coming out in September. Is there a title yet and what were the songwriting and recording sessions like as opposed to The Darker Side of Nonsense or Dead and Dreaming? Cliff Rigano: The title of the album will be Of Vengeance and Violence, and the songwriting sessions are always the same. The guys write the music, I come in and write lyrics and do some arranging around what the vocals should sound like, then we all fine tune it and a song is born. We recorded the record with Scrap 60 again; it’s our 4th record with them and they always do a stellar job. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: You’ve been quoted as saying "you finally feel like a full four piece band". How important is the lineup for Dry Kill Logic‘s music and what do you feel Brendan Kane Duff brings to the band that perhaps others did not? Cliff Rigano: Brendan is a close friend to the band, and it was only a matter of time before he joined. He brings a real cohesiveness to the relationship dynamic of the band, we’re all the same people of the same mindset, and that hasn’t always been the case. As for the music, well, when you write with people you feel comfortable with you will always get a better result. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Back in 2001, you guys were on Roadrunner Records for The Darker Side of Nonsense album. How did the deal with Repossession come about and how do the two labels compare? Cliff Rigano: When we parted ways with Roadrunner in 2002, we took time to regroup and the deal with Repossession came about through mutual friends. As for a comparison between the two labels, that would be a long-winded commentary. All labels have strengths and weaknesses, and the pairing of label and artist has to be right. We are far happier on Repossession than we were on Roadrunner, and very thankful to have been given the 2nd chance to be full time musicians. There is no comparing the two. Repossession is where it’s at for Dry Kill Logic. Let’s leave it at that. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What’s next for Dry Kill Logic? Cliff Rigano: This comes out 6/27, and the full length comes out 9/19. We will be heading to Europe in October/November, and I think there will be a US tour in September. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Thanks for the interview. I’m definitely looking forward to covering some of your shows when the band tours in NJ or NY, especially after the trouble we had with the last interview. (Laughs) I'm just Kidding, they look like a lot of fun. With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!? Cliff Rigano: Thanks to The Metal Web! for the interview, and most importantly thanks to the fans and friends of the band out there. We appreciate your support over the years; we’ll see you on tour soon! OFFICIAL SITE: "DRY KILL LOGIC": http://www.drykilllogic.com or http://www.myspace.com/drykilllogic HOME |
