| Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: As far as classifications go, it’s pretty easy to call Eidolon a power-metal band. But Eidolon is really more than that. Would you agree?
Shawn Drover: I call Eidolon Heavy Metal because to pigeon-hole a band into the 1000 metal sub-genres makes alot of people think that a band can only play a certain kind of Metal. With Eidolon, we play so many different kinds of metal, so it would be retarded to name it anything else but heavy metal. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Speaking of the band being more, track to track the album features so many different stripes of influences. How does the band resolve those influences? Shawn Drover: We just play what we want to hear and don’t worry about what kind of music it is. We know that it is Metal, so that’s all that matters to us. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Being that both Glen and yourself have a pretty busy plate being involved with Megadeth. How do you find the time to dedicate to Eidolon and do you ever foresee this side-project becoming a full-time venture? Shawn Drover: Megadeth is our first priority, as it is our job. Eidolon has always been something that Glen and I do because we love to do it and we do it for ourselves first, that fact that others like it is icing on the cake for us. Eidolon is the reason why we landed the Megadeth gig, so we must be doing something right Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What would you credit as being the largest contributing factor to the cohesion within Eidolon in general? I mean, aside from the band, you and Glen are brothers, as well as playing together for a long time. Shawn Drover: Glen and I have been playing together for 25 years now, so in some cases I think we share the same brain, certainly in a musical sense. We know what the other is thinking most of the time and that’s a great weapon to have in any band. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Is there any sibling rivalry going on in the band? (Laughs) Shawn Drover: Not at all! I know that may seem a bit weird to some people, but we barely ever get pissed off at each other, and if we do, its usually over something stupid, like an e-mail misunderstanding. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: After hearing The Parallel Otherworld and comparing it first to Apostles of Defiance and then to the rest of the albums, I hear a more grounded and complete Eidolon. It sounds as if you know what you really want. Would you agree? Shawn Drover: Yes! For the first time, I am really happy with how this record turned out, mostly from a vocal standpoint. We never seemed totally happy with the singing on our past records, although they always did their best job, something was missing. We no longer have that problem with Nils. He is fantastic! Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Can you tell me about the concept surrounding the album, including the album title? Shawn Drover: There is really no concept, its just a batch of new Eidolon songs, the only difference this time was that I let Nils handle all of the vocals and melodies, so I think this is what made the record so much better. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Why did the band choose King Diamond's The Oath as a cover to include in the album? I am a huge King Diamond fan and I have to say I was not expecting to hear the voice that came out of Nils. I literally pulled the booklet out to see if perhaps you had King come in to guest on the album. Nils is an incredible singer and believe me I was looking for flaws. (Laughs) Shawn Drover: I know, Nils really did a great job on that song! Not many people can truly say they can sound like King Diamond, Nils can, do we figured we could make the song sound quite good, and it does. It was very fun to do as well. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: How did the artwork come about? It’s a great, strong cover . Shawn Drover: Jan Meininghaus has done five artwork records for us, so this is just the latest of his amazing artwork jobs. We are very happy with it. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: When thinking of all the projects that you’ve ever been involved with over the years, where do you find yourself most comfortable? Shawn Drover: I am comfortable in both Megadeth and Eidolon for different reasons. Megadeth is my job and I have great fun in the band . I and Glen have total control of Eidolon, so its a different thing altogether. I love the music in both bands as well, which is very important to me. Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Shawn, thanks for the interview. I will actually be covering the Gigantour show in New Jersey at PNC so I look forward to seeing you. With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!? Shawn Drover: Thank you for the interview.
