w/VALLE  ADZIC
Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I want to congratulate you on another great album, Holy Murder Masquerade. What has inspired you over the last couple years?

Valle Adzic: I think what inspired us most was all the fun we had while promoting our previous album Hellucinate. We toured Europe two times, played a bunch of festivals, and we went to Japan twice. All the cool fans, all the cool bands, all those fun things happening on tour, those were the main driving force when writing
Holy Murder Masquerade.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Who came up with the concept for the album art? Whomever did, had a great idea by incorporating the lyrics with a visual story for the reader to see. Great concept and graphics!

Valle Adzic: Thanks for your kind words! I am the one to blame I guess. (Laughs) I read a review where it said the album was super, but not very original. So, that made me think and finally I came up with this whole comic book thing. We did the booklet in twenty-eight pages and hired a Italian horror comic artist who did all the illustrations, and had the lyrics placed in all those speech balloons. Just like in a real comic book. This way the listener can follow the story musically, lyrically and visually.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: With two songwriters in the band, mainly being yourself, how do the songs come together? Do they arrive at rehearsal finished, or is every song a band project?

Valle Adzic: I usually record all songs in raw demo versions at home to programmed drumbeats. Then I burn them on a CD-R and hand them out to my fellow band mates. This way everybody has a chance to get into the songs before we start rehearsing, and we don't have to spend a lot of time on learning the songs. At rehearsal, we try out all kinds of ideas that everybody has. Sometimes we change a lot from the original version, sometimes nothing at all.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: When recording, do you consciously think about how the songs will be reproduced live?

Valle Adzic: Not really when recording. But, definitely when writing the songs and never have we done that more than on Holy Murder Masquerade. We try making it easy for the kids to sing along at concerts.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: How did the contribution from Thomas Backelin (Lord Belial) for vocals on the track Holy Murder Masquerade come about?

Valle Adzic: Thomas is a great friend of ours. He lives in the same little town and we've known each other for over thirteen years. When we recorded the title track and realized some screaming vocals would be really cool, we knew directly who to call.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Being that you’re the lyricist of the band, where do you draw your inspiration from when writing?

Valle Adzic: Actually, Martin and I wrote the lyrics pretty much together this time. We had lots of fun and will continue writing them together in the future for sure.
Since we already had the story, or let's say, we had a kind of script for the story, it was pretty easy to write the lyrics. Main inspiration definitely comes from movies and our own twisted minds! (Laughs)

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: When comparing to past efforts, would you say Holy Murder Masquerade has taken the band to a new level, and if so, how?

Valle Adzic: Yeah, I think so. We've finally found our home in a strange way. We've learned to write memorable and catchy stuff without making it lame or cheesy. We've learned that a song doesn't need to include 20 different riffs and be ultra fast straight through to be impressive.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: What’s next for Impious?

Valle Adzic: We can't wait to hit the road again. We've turned down a couple of tour offers simply because they didn't really fit Impious in one or another way. So, right now we're basically just waiting for the right tour to come up. Seems like we'll make it to the US for a short trip, so that will be lot's of fun. We're also hoping to tour Europe and Japan . Oh, and it seems like we'll do a video for the track Bloodcraft.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Valle, thanks for the interview! With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!?

Valle Adzic: Thank you so much for this interview and for your support! Everybody should check out our new album Holy Murder Masquerade. If you like it, buy it or steal it, just don't download it because you'll miss out on a lots of cool stuff in the booklet. Take much care and hope to see you on tour!
