Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Leatherwolf recently released a sampler of new material to shop the labels and industry with. Are you finding the labels receptive? Especially with the way the metal scene has changed so drastically from the early 80’s.

Dean Roberts: Actually the scene has definitely changed, but we just sent out the promo pack so were not really sure what will happen. You heard the new Leatherwolf and we think it kicks ass.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: The sampler consists of only a few songs. Is there other material written and recorded?

Dean Roberts: We have fourteen tunes ready to go baby, just not recorded.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: When can the fans expect a new album to be made available for the public?

Dean Roberts: As soon as possible.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Is there a possible tour or any gigs lined up? I think it would be great to get the new material out there and heard in a live element.

Dean Roberts: We will tour on this next record. There are gigs being negotiated as we speak.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I noticed your new material has some “old” Leatherwolf influence but also seems a little heavier than previous albums. Is that something Leatherwolf is trying to bring to the foundation?

Dean Roberts: This is just the new direction our music has taken since we trimmed off the fat. Some things are out of control.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com
: Your last self-produced album “Wide Open” was a live release. What made you decide to do a live release where was it recorded?

Dean Roberts: It was just a great time to do a live album for us, off the cuff.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Mike Oliver was in the band most of Leatherwolf’s career. Was it difficult in having to replace him?

Dean Roberts: Of course it was difficult, but we found a singer that rips living right next door.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Your new vocalist Chris Adam’s style differs from Mike. Was that the approach you were looking for when seeking a replacement?

Dean Roberts: He just clicked right off the bat.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com
: How are the fans reacting to the new material and new vocalist?

Dean Roberts: Check the web site, download the new song and make your own opinion.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com
: I’ve actually heard the new material. Carey Howe also left a while back. What was the reason for his departure from the band?

Dean Roberts: He had other things to do.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: I’m sure a lot of people would like to know this. Before the reunion, at the height of Leatherwolf’s career, why did the band break-up in what seemed like overnight?

Dean Roberts: Sex, drugs, rock & roll and a little bit of ego. Friendship took a road trip.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Was Leatherwolf dropped from their label following Mike Olivier’s split from the band or was the contract over? I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, you guy’s were signed to Island at the time.

Dean Roberts: We told Island to beat it. There was a 1.1 million dollar contract on the table for three more records. Oliver was still with the band

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: After the reunion tour there was new material written, was it ever finished? Was the material scrapped or will it be available for an up-coming album in the future?

Dean Roberts: No, it was all scrapped.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: With the new line-up, what will Leatherwolf bring to 2002?

Dean Roberts: Some of the best Leatherwolf you have ever heard.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Presently your cover concept and website layout are incredible. Who does your art layouts and design?

Dean Roberts: One of my water polo buddies drew the line art for the wolf and girl. Jeff Baker tweaked it a little bit and colored it. He also produced a logo on the same lines of the art. Jeff does all the layouts, graphic design, Photoshop, and promotions for us. He also does the website among other things.

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: Leatherwolf was always a hungry band doing whatever it took and became a recognized band in the industry. Is that fire that drove you throughout the years still there today?

Dean Roberts: Wild dogs on the prowl!

Dawn/TheMetalWeb.com: From what I hear in the new stuff that fire is still there and escalating rapidly. Any final words for The Metal Web!?

Dean Roberts: We feel really good writing songs together, which hasn’t happened in a while. We all dig Metal, always will. We just can’t wait to make this next record and going on tour.
