| Dawn/The Metal Web!: Currently Speed\Kill/Hate is in the studio putting the final mixes down for the debut album. Now that it’s almost completed, what is the title and release date for the new album? Dave Linsk: I am in the studio right now working on the stuff. As of now we are just beginning to shop a record deal. We have interest and want to see what will be offered to us before we release it. The tentative title is Face the Pain. Dawn/The Metal Web!: What is the meaning behind the name Speed\Kill/Hate? Dave Linsk: Really it is just a description of the band. We are a “Thrash” or “Speed Metal” band, there are some members of the “Kill” and we all “hate plenty”. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Besides the tracks on the Speed\Kill/Hate "sampler" disk. How many more tracks have been added to the new album and in your opinion, what track or tracks do you feel best depict Speed\Kill/Hate and why? Dave Linsk: There are 10 tunes. I think that the more “thrashy” tracks are most like what we are about and the direction the band is going in. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Musically I really liked the tracks Repent and Walls of Hate. Lyrically, what are these tracks about? Dave Linsk: Repent is about a troubled individual and Walls Of Hate is about building a wall of anger and hatred. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Originally when you were writing the songs they were written with the intentions for Overkill and Overkill just released Killbox 13. So with that said when did the actual writing and recording begin for this new album and who were the main contributors in the writing? Dave Linsk: I actually wrote the music around Bloodletting and then Tim and I recorded it .He added drum parts he felt should be there. Derek then came down and replaced the bass tracks. At this point we tried a bunch of different vocalists from other national bands. After hearing all of these singers, no one was the right guy. I then called my old singer Mario from “Anger on Anger” to see if he was interested. He was and came in and brutalized the stuff and wrote some great lyrics and melodies. Dawn/The Metal Web!: When searching for a vocalist you stated there were several singers from national acts that auditioned for the slot before deciding to go with Mario (Anger on Anger) . Who were some of the musicians that did tryout and why do you feel Mario makes the line-up complete? Dave Linsk: We spoke to a bunch of different guys. First, Gary from “Propain” was going to do it but our schedules clashed and it was taking to long for it to get off the ground. Then Tim spoke to “Billy Milano” and the ball was dropped again. We had a few more guys from other bands that demoed on the stuff but just were not right. Mario is the right guy. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Speaking of Mario, you were both in “Anger on Anger” based out of NJ. How long were you involved in that project before leaving to join Overkill? Dave Linsk: We had a really good band for a few years. The music we did 10 years or so ago still holds up today. Dawn/The Metal Web!: With Overkill's tour about to begin in support of the new release Killbox 13 , I'm just curious as to why you would start a side project now? Is Speed\Kill/Hate something that just happened to develop and became solid or was this something that you were planning before the Overkill release and tour? I ask because that's a pretty full plate. Dave Linsk: I felt that the songs were to strong to just be shelved. If we were not going to use them in Overkill, I was going to use them somewhere else. The other guys and myself really like playing the heavier tunes in Overkill. All of Speed\Kill/Hate is heavy and will only get heavier and faster. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Speed\Kill/Hate recently played the New England Metal Fest. Did your set list include the additional tracks off the new album and what has the response been thus far to Speed\Kill/Hate? From what I hear Speed\Kill/Hate is creating a major buzz. Dave Linsk: Yes we did play some new tunes at the New England Metal Fest. So far all the responses we have heard has been really positive. We have been selling CD’s and merchandise out really quickly on the web site. We also have been between #3 & # 4 on the MP3.com Metal charts for 2 months now. So, so far so good. Dawn/The Metal Web!: I know you said shows in support of the new album will ensue after the Overkill tour. Are there any confirmed dates as we speak and have there been any discussions as to where the shows will occur? Dave Linsk: I have been trying to put together a tour in the states with a few other bands for sometime in the late summer or fall. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Speed\Kill/Hate is currently seeking label representation. Does that mean that eventually you'd like to make Speed\Kill/Hate a full-time venture rather than to have it remain as a side project? Dave Linsk: We want to go out and tour Speed\Kill/Hate actively yes. However, we do have time to do both bands. When one is down we will do the other. Dawn/The Metal Web!: When seeking label representation, yourself and some of the members are already signed with Spitfire Records through Overkill. Why not just solicit the material to your present label Spitfire being that it's a label you're already comfortable and familiar with? Dave Linsk: Sent them a package yesterday. We will see what they say. Dawn/The Metal Web!: You also mentioned a DVD for Speed\Kill/Hate. Is there a title for this DVD? What will it consist of and when will it become available for purchase? Dave Linsk: We are putting together that DVD footage now. In august we are going out to California to shoot a video for one of the tunes. We want to include the making of that video. So it will be towards the end of the year. As far as the name of it, we are still kicking it around. Dawn/The Metal Web!: In August you stated that the band will be shooting a video in California. Can you tell me what the concept for the video will be and what track off the album will the video be portraying? Dave Linsk: We are not 100% on what song. It will depend on the mixes. The video will be a representation of us live with some story line to the song. Dawn/The Metal Web!: Dave I'd like to say thanks for the interview, anytime, you know you've got the support! The material I've heard from Speed\Kill/Hate is "excellent" and your playing on Killbox 13,"impeccable"! With that said, do you have any final words for The Metal Web!? Dave Linsk: Thanks a lot!
