w/ANDREW HERCULES
Dawn/The Metal Web!: With the material for the new album finally completed, when will The End enter the studio for the recording?

Andrew Hercules
: Well the thing is nothing’s ever really completed until it is recorded and we are constantly working on the songs to make them better and that is the way it will be until we hit the studio, which will be in August of this year. We are trying really hard to make this a complete record and that can be difficult because sometimes you are working in areas where you don’t feel as strong as opposed to what you are accustomed to doing in the band, but of course the only way to get better at those things is to continue doing them until you get better.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: What is the title for the new album and can you give us any information as to what the new album will consist of?

Andrew Hercules: As of right now we have yet to settle on a title for the album. Since we are still working on the songs we will probably decide when we have the complete picture and then find something that fits accordingly or maybe that’s just a cop out for us not having an album name yet. It’s often very difficult for things like this to come about just like band names album names can be nerve racking if you try and try and try. We have a few ideas, but I have a feeling it will just come to us.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Upon completing the album there will be a tour to support.  Where and when will the tour initiate?

Andrew Hercules
: It’s hard to say exactly since as of this moment we don’t have anything planned for right after the completion of the album. We really just want to focus on the album right now and planning to tour around the same time, could end up with us rushing the mixing process in order to be in Chicago the next day at 4:30 and that’s no way to really get things done. Focus is the key.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: In keeping with the tour dates, The End will be playing this years "Milwaukee Metal Fest" on July 26th as well as a few other dates in the states.  Will any of the new material be heard at any of these shows?

Andrew Hercules
: We have been playing a couple of the songs live for a few months now. We are slowly working on the transition from old to new material, which is different and ultimately better to us. We will most likely be playing mainly newer stuff, but there will definitely be some “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient” material as well.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Your last album “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient”, how do you feel the new album will differ, if any, from this and past albums?

Andrew Hercules
: In “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient” Our approach was very much we wanted to do everything possible and it came together, but after doing that album, we realized how to put it together better. To stray more from spastic to hypnotic. Not that either of those are remotely accurate, but with music it‘s always hard to really understand until you’ve heard it. And even then when you try to explain to other people they won’t understand either until they have heard it too.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: When releasing “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient” the band was signed to a Canadian label “Re-define Records”.  What made The End decide to sever the contract?

Andrew Hercules
: I don’t know if the word sever really applies to the situation. We had a one-album deal with "Re-define Records". The album was originally released in 2001 then as we started developing a relationship with "Relapse Records" the first thing they wanted to do was re-release the album which was awesome and now the album is receiving more attention than ever. Even this very interview. "Relapse Records" is a good home for us.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: After receiving offers from several respected labels, what made the band decide to proceed with "Relapse Records"?  Though it’s a great choice! They’re noted and a very dedicated label to their artists.

Andrew Hercules: They are good guys that put out awesome bands. What more could we ask for?

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Speaking of labels, in the bio it states “the band decided to stay as relatively independent as possible “ before signing with “Re-define Records”.  At that time, why did the band feel that signing with an Independent label versus a major label was the right decision?

Andrew Hercules
: Unfortunately or Fortunately for a band like ours there aren’t many options when you are starting out. "Re-define Records" was the best thing for our band at the time,  but that time has passed.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: From the album “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient”, what’s the concept behind this album?

Andrew Hercules: “Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient” was something like a dissertation on chaos. From the music to the words there was an overall feeling of an incomprehensible, but musical sound. The way life sounds. Random sometime repetitious, sometimes not. Sometimes loud sometimes quiet. It’s really about everything from the heavy music perspective of course

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Lyrically, who does the writing? The words are pretty profound.

Andrew Hercules: It’s all very dreamlike and erratic, the meaning really does lie in the interpretation. Someone like you who interprets it as profound is probably a very profound thinker. I wrote some, Tyler wrote some. They are really just a precursor to what we can do now.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: The track “For Mankind, Limited Renewal”, who is “Jeff Scheven” and what was his contribution to the track?

Andrew Hercules
: Jeff is a very close friend of the bands and for a time played keyboards and samples with us live. It didn’t work out in the long run, because he has other priorities, but there will be some collaboration with him and us in the future. Maybe even in another form of media.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: You can’t really put The End in any one genre, which is good.  What are the influences within the band and musically how would you describe The End?

Andrew Hercules: Progressive, Intelligent and/or Passionate. There is a wide array among the band, but those qualities could probably be applied to anything we‘re in to. From King Crimson to Daughters from Tortoise to Emperor. If it’s good we like it. It’s hard to really to label things as direct influences we draw on anything we can. Including things that aren’t “music”.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Other than the tour dates, is there any other news about the band, new album or other that you’d care to share with your fans?

Andrew Hercules: For future tour information and general going-ons you can always check www.relapse.com or www.allchaos.net. Plus be ready for a new release at the end of this year.

Dawn/The Metal Web!: Thanks for interviewing and best of luck with the new album!  With that said, do you have any final words for "The Metal Web!"?

Andrew Hercules: There’s not much else I can say other than it’s good. The rest is up to the listeners and their relative perceptions right? Wrong! Love it or get the fuck out of the way.
